Job summary

The University of Tennessee Office of Innovative Technologies seeks a Senior Linux Systems Administrator to support Linux system automation, security, and infrastructure for academic and student information systems.

The Senior Linux Systems Administrator independently designs, administers, and supports complex Linux systems, networks, and databases that enable academic applications and the Student Information System, providing technical leadership for large-scale implementations and mentoring

Qualifications

At least 10 years Linux administration experience with an associate’s degree, or 14 years without the degree.
Proficiency in scripting and Ansible; strong patching, backup, and recovery knowledge.
Excellent communication and ability to mentor junior staff.

Responsibilities

Administer Linux OS, patching, kernel updates, performance monitoring.
Implement security best practices, including SSH hardening and system automation.
Maintain Linux servers supporting Academic LAMP and related applications.
Deploy, configure, and maintain Linux VMs in Hyper-V, Azure, OCI, and other platforms.
Lead large projects, upgrade efforts, and provide mentorship.
