Job summary

University of Dayton IT department seeks an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join the Enterprise Enabling Technologies team. You will administer Linux-based servers, both virtual and physical, monitor performance, apply upgrades, and help secure enterprise services to support the University community.

The role requires collaboration across UDit, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or at least four years of equivalent relevant experience.
• Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience as a Linux server administrator in an enterprise environment.
• Working knowledge of servers, storage, networking, firewalls, and virtualization.
• Ability to collaborate professionally with diverse users and support staff.
• Ability to work under time constraints in mission critical situations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact with diverse users and staff.
• Experience working on multiple projects in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Administer Linux-based servers (virtual and physical) and maintain hardware.
• Monitor server performance and security; apply tested patches and upgrades.
• Support deployment, updating and securing enterprise-wide applications and services.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across the IT department to build enterprise systems.
• Occasionally work on-call during after-hours, weekends, and holidays.
