Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is seeking a Linux Administrator in the Washington, DC area with Top Secret/SCI eligibility. You will install, harden, and maintain Linux servers, monitor performance, and automate tasks to ensure reliable, scalable operations.

The role requires 5+ years of hands-on Linux administration, scripting skills, and experience with IaC/CaC and DevSecOps concepts. Onsite location and DoD 8140 IAT II compliance are key expectations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on Linux System Administrator experience in enterprise/production environments.
• Strong knowledge of major Linux distributions and administration.
• Proficiency in scripting to automate routine tasks.
• Familiarity with containerization platforms from an operations perspective.
• Exposure to DevSecOps concepts and secure software delivery practices.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Configuration as Code (CaC).
• Solid networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, SSH, core Linux services.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, harden, and maintain Linux servers and services in prod and non-prod environments.
• Monitor performance, diagnose issues, and implement corrective actions for reliability and scalability.
• Apply updates, patch management, and security configurations per best practices.
• Use scripts and automation tools to streamline admin tasks.
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues with cross-functional teams.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines and environment consistency.
• Maintain accurate system documentation, configurations, change records, and SOPs.
