Job summary

Persistent Systems, LLC in New York City seeks a Linux Systems Administrator to join our NYC headquarters. The role focuses on ensuring Linux servers and systems run optimally and solving complex database problems within a collaborative environment.

Ideal candidates have extensive Linux admin experience, scripting skills, and familiarity with configuration management. The position offers comprehensive benefits and a competitive compensation package.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
Proficiency with Bash, Python, or a UNIX oriented scripting language (automation).
Minimum of 6 years of systems administration experience in a small to medium sized business IT team.
Experience working in a Linux environment as a system administrator.
Familiarity with basic networking (IP addresses, routing, firewalls).
Familiarity with configuration management tools.
Must have a US Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

Design and manage the installation, configuration and maintenance of Linux servers and workstations.
Provide technical support for computer network issues.
Collaborate with others to resolve information technology issues.
Design integrated computer systems.
Test computer hardware performance.
Test software performance.
Document operational activities.
Install computer hardware.
Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, and storage in accordance with best practices.
Perform system monitoring, integrity verification, and availability of hardware, server resources, and key processes.
Perform regular security monitoring to identify any intrusions.
Create, execute, and maintain data backup plan.
Ensure all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media.
Create, change, and or delete user accounts as requiredResponsible for hardware/software asset management and deployment for new and existing employees
Provide help desk support and resolve issues for end-users
