Job summary

Canonical is seeking an exceptionally talented lead kernel engineer to architect, implement, and deliver Ubuntu Linux kernel features and hardening. Location flexibility enables remote work across multiple time zones, with occasional in-person gatherings for team alignment.

You will guide engineers, collaborate with external teams, and drive initiatives from concept through delivery, requiring deep C and Linux kernel expertise, strong leadership, and excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

• Strong C programming expertise and work on Unix/Linux kernel
• Experience with kernel development, patching, and debugging
• Scripting with Python and Bash for automation
• Proficiency with Git and source control workflows
• Clear written and spoken English communication skills

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction and lead delivery of a kernel engineering initiative
• Collaborate with management and external teams to coordinate delivery
• Mentor and guide junior and mid-career engineers on kernel projects
• Drive performance, reliability, and security improvements in Ubuntu Linux kernel
• Travel internationally for company events as needed
