Job summary

The City of Santa Maria is seeking a Lead Lifeguard to supervise daily operations at the Paul Nelson Aquatic Center or local high school pools. This part-time role ensures patron safety, provides staff leadership and delivers in-service training under the Recreation Division.

Ideal candidates bring lifeguarding experience, ARC Lifeguard/CPR/Title 22 certifications, and strong customer service. This position offers an on-site work environment and benefit eligibility.

Qualifications

• Must have American Red Cross lifeguarding, CPR for the professional rescuer, and Title 22 certifications.
• Two years of lifeguarding experience; one year of college or university work in recreation/PE or related field.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be at least 18 years old and in good health.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, supervise and direct day-to-day activities at facilities and lifeguard staff.
• Assist with recruitment, interviewing, hiring aquatic personnel and staff evaluations; conduct trainings and in-service sessions.
• Prepare incident/accident reports and enforce pool safety rules and regulations.
• Safeguard swimmers and assist with swim lessons and general facility maintenance.
