Job summary

Protective is seeking a Sr. Underwriting Consultant to join our Life Underwriting team in a fully remote capacity.

The ideal candidate will independently evaluate complex, high-face-amount cases and mentor junior underwriters while balancing risk, customer experience, and distribution relationships. You will underwrite large life insurance cases typically above $5M up to $10M, work with independent agents and BGAs, manage a high-volume caseload, and contribute to team development through

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of life insurance underwriting experience.
• Proven ability to underwrite large and complex cases, including impaired risks.
• Experience with independent agent / brokerage (BGA) distribution channel.
• Decision-making authority on high-face amounts and complex risk profiles.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite complex individual life insurance cases with high face amounts.
• Analyze medical, financial, and non-medical information for underwriting decisions.
• Provide second signature support and mentorship to junior underwriters.
• Partner with sales and distribution to support business objectives.
• Build relationships with independent agents, BGAs, and distribution partners.
• Manage a high-volume caseload while meeting service and quality standards.
• Communicate underwriting decisions clearly to stakeholders.
• Contribute to team development through mentoring and training.
