Senior Licensed Professional Structural Engineer

HBK Engineering is seeking an experienced Licensed Illinois Structural Engineer to oversee the technical execution of projects within a team of engineers and designers, focusing on structural and geotechnical utility infrastructure designs to support HBK's expanding service offerings across power, renewables, telecom, gas, and municipal engineering sectors. The ideal candidate will drive client success through project execution and contribute to the growth and excellence of our organization.

Within the HBK Organization, the Senior Structural Engineer will provide technical oversight and manage daily operations for structural and geotechnical engineering projects. This role requires deep technical knowledge, strong leadership, and excellent communication skills.

Our Structural Team’s services include designing permanent and temporary structures such as poles, manholes, vaults, earth retention systems, and foundations including slab-on-grade, shallow, deep foundations, helical piles, and solar equipment foundations. Onsite evaluations of transmission towers, manholes, vaults, and tunnels are also part of the work. HBK projects span the US, supporting the increasing demand for our services.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve engineering and construction issues.
• Prepare technical memos, reports, specifications, and documentation.
• Interpret drawings, calculations, schematics, and reports.
• Apply engineering theories and analysis to designs.
• Work on various structures and foundations, including earth retention and deep excavations.
• Conduct field inspections and engineering analyses.
• Perform conceptual and value engineering, focusing on constructability.
• Stamp and seal drawings as engineer-of-record when required.

Project Execution & Quality Assurance

• Deliver high-quality work to clients.
• Identify project risks and support mitigation strategies.
• Assist in developing and monitoring project plans.
• Coordinate with other departments to ensure alignment.
• Ensure client deliverables meet standards.

Leadership & Team Management

• Lead engineering teams, including engineers, designers, and field personnel.
• Mentor and motivate team members.
• Ensure clear communication of engineering deliverables.

Client Relations

• Maintain and grow client relationships.
• Lead proposal efforts.
• Share project successes and feedback internally.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering, emphasizing structural/geotechnical engineering.
• 10+ years of experience in related fields.
• Professional Engineering License (Illinois preferred).
• Licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois preferred.

Location & Compensation

Primary location: Oak Brook, IL, with other locations in Chicago, PA, TX, CO, FL, IA.

Salary range: $115,000 - $150,000 annually, based on experience, plus bonus potential.
