Job description

HBK Engineering is seeking an experienced Licensed Illinois Structural Engineer to oversee the technical execution of projects within a team of engineers and designers, focusing on structural and geotechnical utility infrastructure designs to support HBK's rapidly expanding service offerings across power, renewables, telecom, gas, and municipal engineering sectors. The ideal candidate will drive client success through project execution, contributing to the growth and excellence of our organization.

Within the HBK Organization, the Senior Structural Engineer will provide technical oversight and day-to-day management for structural and geotechnical engineering projects. This role requires a deep understanding of the technical aspects of our work, as well as strong leadership and communication skills.

Our Structural Team’s service offerings include but are not limited to design of permanent and temporary structures such as poles, manholes, vaults, and earth retention systems. Foundation work includes slab-on-grade, shallow foundations, deep foundations, helical pile design, pole foundations, solar equipment foundations, equipment pad design, structural support of electric vehicle charging projects, riser foundations, concrete pedestals, pipe protection slabs, utility supports, and retaining walls. Onsite evaluations are also a significant part of our work, including transmission towers, manholes, vaults, and tunnels. HBK projects span the US, and our team is growing to meet increasing demand.

Description:
Technical Responsibilities
  1. Work on challenging assignments involving investigating, troubleshooting, and solving engineering and construction issues.
  2. Prepare technical memos, reports, construction specifications, and other documentation.
  3. Read and interpret drawings, calculations, schematics, and reports.
  4. Apply engineering theories, techniques, and analysis to structural and geotechnical designs.
  5. Work on various structures including wood, masonry, steel, and concrete.
  6. Design building foundations, deep shafts, trenches, and earth retention systems.
  7. Conduct structural investigations, inspections, and analyses.
  8. Perform conceptual and value engineering with constructability in mind.
  9. Perform engineer-of-record responsibilities, including stamping and sealing drawings as required.
Project Execution and Quality Assurance
  1. Ensure high-quality deliverables to clients.
  2. Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  3. Assist in developing and monitoring project plans to ensure scope and schedule adherence.
  4. Collaborate with other departments to align design activities.
  5. Ensure client deliverables meet standards and expectations.
Leadership and Team Management
  1. Lead project teams of engineers, designers, and field personnel.
  2. Mentor and coach team members, fostering engagement and morale.
  3. Ensure clear communication of engineering deliverables within the team.
Client Relations
  1. Maintain and expand client relationships.
  2. Lead engineering responses to proposals.
  3. Share project successes and feedback internally.
Required Qualifications:
  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on structural/geotechnical engineering.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineering Licensure (Illinois preferred).
Essential Skills:
  • Licensed Structural Engineer registration in Illinois preferred.
  • Knowledge of industry design codes (AISC, ASCE, UBC, IBC).
  • Strong understanding of structural and geotechnical principles.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
Valued Skills and Experiences:
  • Consulting background preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of Deltek system.

Compensation:

Range: $115,000 - $150,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Includes base salary and potential bonus.
