Job summary

State of Hawaiʻi seeks a Librarian III to plan and supervise public library operations at Kapaa Public Library. The role requires reference, cataloging, and materials expertise, with responsibilities across planning, coordinating, and evaluating library services.

Two and a half years of professional librarianship, including at least one year at Librarian III level, is required along with a relevant bachelor's degree. Substitutions to qualifications may apply.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university.
• Two and a half (2-1/2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in one or more major functional areas of librarianship.
• At least one year of experience must have been comparable to the Librarian III.
• The Librarian III reflects responsibility for independently performing the full range of professional library services.
• Substitutions described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements apply.

Responsibilities

• Plan and supervise the operation of a public library.
• Serve as a specialist for reference and materials, or cataloging and classification.
• Plan, coordinate and evaluate library services in a major service area.
• Provide specialized reference services and materials to departmental/program personnel.
• May supervise lower level librarians and subprofessional staff.
