Job summary

Illinois State Police in Chicago seeks a Technical Advisor III—Legal Advisor for training, patrol, and statewide 9-1-1 programs. You will review forms and documents for legal sufficiency and coordinate with senior leadership on procedural changes.

As assigned, prepare amendments to statutes and administrative rules, and serve as liaison with the Attorney General’s Office on civil cases and enforcement issues related to training and communications systems.

Qualifications

• Requires graduation from a recognized law school.
• Requires valid Illinois license to practice law.
• Requires two years’ professional experience in the practice of law.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a Technical Advisor in the Illinois State Police Legal Office on legal issues impacting operations, including training and 9-1-1 systems.
• Perform legal research and provide interpretation to ensure compliance with laws and regulations that govern operations.
• Advise and meet with the Chief Legal Counsel and Senior Command on evaluation of proposed changes to workflows or procedures.
• Participate in meetings to provide legal analysis on proposed rules and legislation.
• Manage a litigation portfolio as assigned by the Deputy Chief Legal Officer.
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of duties enumerated.

Education

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
