Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a Senior/Principal Lead Mechanical Engineer to drive the W76-1/-2 Weapon System Team onsite, directing design, testing, and system integration across the lifecycle of nuclear weapon components. You will lead configurations, modeling, and large-scale tests, while collaborating with experts to deliver robust solutions.

This role requires a bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, plus the ability to work onsite with a DOE Q clearance;

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience or equivalent combo of education and experience
• Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent to start with ability to participate in random polygraph testing
• Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is desirable
• Experience with nuclear weapon systems knowledge and Sandia drawing/qualification processes may be beneficial

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and analysis of nuclear weapon systems and subsystems with precision.
• Apply engineering principles to conduct trade studies and develop optimized system solutions.
• Lead system integration efforts to ensure performance within the weapon system.
• Collaborate with modeling and simulation experts to inform design decisions.
• Plan and lead environmental, performance, and qualification testing for weapon components.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across programs to ensure mission success.
• Troubleshoot anomalies and resolve complex system issues.
• Conduct peer reviews of design concepts and efforts across the Labs.
• Author detailed test reports and present program status updates to management and customers.
