Job summary

Toyota Financial Services (Plano, TX) seeks a Sr Lead Engineer — Backend to own architecture and drive backend systems. This individual contributor role emphasizes deep backend expertise, leadership without management, and cross-team influence to raise engineering standards.

You will work across teams to shape technical direction, mentor peers, and deliver scalable, production-grade solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with backend/full-stack focus at principal/staff level.
• Experience designing and building serverless architectures on AWS.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical authority for backend and platform architecture across product domains.
• Design, build, and maintain full-stack features from APIs to data models and event-driven workflows.
• Lead design reviews, architecture discussions, and RFC processes across teams.
• Identify and resolve systemic issues: performance, reliability, scaling, and tech debt.
• Own complex debugging across the full stack, from API latency to infra misconfigurations.
• Define engineering best practices: code quality, testing, observability, deployment safety.
• Collaborate with PMs, FE engineers to shape roadmaps and ensure feasibility.
• Mentor engineers through reviews, pairing, and design feedback.
• Contribute to hiring through technical interviews and defining senior success.
