Job summary

Axillon Aerospace in Erlanger, KY, is seeking an experienced technician to perform hand layup of prepreg composite materials onto molds and tooling according to engineering specs and ply books.

You will identify and orient plies, prepare molds, cut and stage materials, and ensure quality through inspection and documentation. This role supports autoclave operations and requires adherence to safety and clean room protocols.

Responsibilities

• Perform hand layup of prepreg composite materials onto molds and tooling in accordance with engineering specifications, ply books, and work instructions.
• Identify and orient composite plies according to fiber direction, material type, and laminate schedule requirements.
• Prepare molds and tooling, including cleaning, release application, and inspection prior to layup operations.
• Cut, kit, and stage composite materials for production requirements.
• Remove backing films and accurately position prepreg materials while minimizing wrinkles, bridging, gaps, and foreign object debris (FOD).
• Debulk laminate stacks as required throughout the layup process.
• Perform vacuum bagging operations including installation of peel ply, perforated film, breather materials, vacuum ports, and bagging film.
• Verify vacuum integrity and leak-check assemblies prior to cure.
• Maintain material traceability and accurately complete manufacturing documentation.
• Inspect completed layups for compliance with specifications and quality standards.
• Support autoclave loading and unloading operations when required.
• Follow all company safety procedures, clean room protocols, and handling requirements for refrigerated prepreg materials.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities to improve quality, efficiency, and production flow.
