J MAR's client, a publicly-traded company headquartered in Dallas, seeks a Senior Landman to join its existing land team. The company holds mineral, royalty, and non-operated working interests across a broad multi-state footprint. This role touches almost every stage of that ownership, from lease negotiation and title work to division of interest calculations and acquisition support.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned landman who is comfortable working with complex title and ownership issues and who actively looks for ways to modernize land workflows through automation and other emerging tools.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leasing & Land Transactions
- Lead negotiations on oil and gas leases and associated agreements, pushing for terms that protect and strengthen the company's interests.
- Take ownership of complex land assignments and carry each one through from initial review to completion.
- Contribute to due diligence on acquisitions and divestitures as needed, including title and ownership review of target properties.
Title & Ownership Analysis
- Run mineral and working interest title chains using both public and private records.
- Build and check complex division of interest calculations for non-operated properties.
- Research ownership, well, and lease information through regulatory and commercial sources, including the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC), the Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC), and Enverus.
- Develop county-level and basin-wide reports on ownership and lease status for presentation to management.
Land Records, Technology & Support
- Keep land, contract, and revenue data current and accurate within the company's land management software.
- Look for opportunities to streamline land administration through automation, better use of existing software, and new technology.
- Prepare spreadsheets, correspondence, and presentations using Microsoft Excel, Word, and the broader Office suite.
- Work with the accounting group to resolve land-related accounting issues as they come up.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree. A degree in Energy Commerce, Energy Management, or another American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL) accredited program is preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of in-house oil and gas land experience.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- Demonstrated comfort using AI-powered tools and technology to work more efficiently.
- Strong research and math skills, with the accuracy that title and division of interest work demands.
- Clear, professional written communication and strong interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and responsive, with the ability to prioritize a varied workload and consistently meet deadlines.
- Registered Professional Landman (RPL) or Certified Professional Landman (CPL) designation is preferred.
- Division order knowledge and experience, a plus.
- Experience with DocVue and LandWorks, a plus.
