Job summary

The City of Wichita seeks a skilled Landfill Equipment Operator to manage heavy machinery including dozers, loaders and compactors at the C&D/industrial landfill. The role requires outdoor work, compliance with safety standards, and the ability to perform routine maintenance.

Expect to work a Monday–Friday schedule with potential overtime and to operate under supervision in outside conditions. Valid Kansas CDL is required, with potential for advancement and additional duties as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Two years of experience operating heavy or specialized equipment in landfill or construction.
• Must hold a valid Kansas CDL, preferably Class A with tanker endorsement or ability to obtain in 180 days.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and overtime as needed.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Operates landfill equipment (dozer, loader, compactor) for waste placement and compaction.
• Directs traffic around the working face at C&D landfill.
• Performs minor service and daily fluid checks on equipment.
• Maintains daily inspection logs and records.
• Assists customers with loading mulch or compost and provides general site assistance.
