Job summary

The City of Wichita is seeking a skilled landfill equipment operator to safely manage heavy machinery and lead a crew in a demanding outdoor environment. The role includes routine vehicle operation, basic maintenance, and supervising tasks at the landfill site.

Applicants should have 2+ years of relevant experience, a valid Kansas CDL, and the ability to work extended hours in varying weather. Pre-employment checks and eligibility to work in the U.S. are required.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Two (2) years of experience operating heavy or specialized equipment used in landfill or construction activities.
• Current Kansas Class A CDL or Class B CDL with ability to acquire Class A within 180 days; Canadian/Mexican citizens may need home country CDL.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Operates a landfill compactor and dozer for waste placement and compaction.
• Operates a wheel loader, backhoe, skid steer, and tractor with attachments as needed.
• Operates trucks (pickup, water, dump) with trailer; performs basic service on equipment.
• Completes daily inspection logs and maintains safety around active waste cells.
• Directs traffic at the working face and monitors materials entering landfill.
• May assist in closed landfill maintenance and repair.
