Job summary

EDF Renewable Energy, Inc. is seeking a Senior Land Agent – Land Acquisition to lead negotiations for renewable project land and secure favorable long-term agreements. The role requires strong contract drafting, negotiation, and CRM proficiency, with a decade of land leasing experience.

You will mentor others and coordinate with regional teams to advance project development. Remote work is available for candidates in the West Region, with travel up to 50% as needed to landowners and project

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree, JD, or MBA, in Business, Marketing, Real Estate or related field.
  • Ten years of direct experience in land leasing/acquisition.
  • Past renewables experience preferred.
  • RPL or CPL through American Association of Professional Landmen preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and manage relationships with landowners to secure long-term land agreements for renewable projects.
  • Assist in obtaining fully executed documents for development including leases and easements.
  • Mentor Land Agents and develop onboarding materials for the team.
  • Work with regional teams to identify landowners and negotiate contracts for proposed projects.
  • Conduct stakeholder meetings and maintain relationships throughout land acquisition and development.
  • Provide weekly updates and status reports to leadership.

Salary Range

The full pay range for this role is $107,200 to $178,600, and the good faith estimated starting pay for this position upon hire is $137,000 to $158,000. We generally base our salary decisions on factors including but not limited to, relevant work and leadership experience, education, demonstrated performance, internal equity, and in some cases, geographic location.

This position is "Remote" however applicants must live in the "West Region" (CA, AZ, NV, OR, WA, ID, UT, MT, WY, CO, NM, TX, OK, KS, NE).

Senior Land Agent - Land Acquisition Scope of Job

The Senior Land Agent - Land Acquisition will be primarily responsible for negotiating and securing land agreements in field-based land acquisition to support project development pipeline goals and support field-based land needs for projects in implementation and operations phase. The Senior Land Agent is also responsible for land acquisition negotiations, assisting in obtaining curative agreements, developing, and maintaining relationships with local officials or stakeholders, conducting update meetings for stakeholders, mentoring other Land Agents, and project reporting at the direction of a Manager, Land Acquisition.

Senior Land Agent - Land Acquisition Responsibilities
  • Initiate and manage relationships with landowners that will culminate in securing a long-term land agreement for the purpose of using the land for renewable project development.
  • Assist in obtaining fully executed documents needed in advanced stages of development including, but not limited to, land leases, land purchases, collection and transmission line easements, access road easements, title curative instruments and crossing agreements, under the guidance and supervision of the Manager, Land Acquisition.
  • Mentor and train Land Agents; develop a curriculum with the Land & Community Engagement Leadership Team; assist with onboarding and familiarizing new Land Agents with the tools they need to effectively perform their job functions.
  • Work with regional teams to implement land acquisition campaigns, including identification of landowners within prospective sites, initiating contact and meeting with individual landowners to articulate the benefits of company’s value proposition, and negotiating contracts with landowners and/or landowner attorneys for participation in proposed renewable energy projects.
  • Under the guidance of Manager, Land Acquisition, conduct Stakeholder meetings, presentations and maintain relationships with Stakeholders throughout the land acquisition and development process.
  • Provide data to Manager, Land Acquisition for weekly updates with Region Development staff regarding priority tasks for projects and submit a weekly status report(s) to maintain up-to-date summary of project activities.
  • Work within the framework of corporate land acquisition policies under the Manager, Land Acquisition.
  • Assist Community Relations teams and regional staff with maintaining existing landowner communications via project update phone calls and letters, quarterly newsletters, and project update meetings as needed.

Supervision of Others: None

Working Conditions: 50% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. 50% of time is spent outside of the office visiting landowners’ and/or internal customers’ sites in additional to attending various conferences and meetings.

Fiscal Responsibilities: Forecasting and reporting on the land acquisition budget for assigned projects.

Qualifications
Senior Land Agent - Land Acquisition Qualifications
  • RPL, or CPL through American Association of Professional Landmen preferred
  • Local Notary license preferred, or the ability to obtain one.
Education/Experience
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree, JD, or MBA, in Business, Marketing, or Real Estate or a related field.
  • Requires a minimum of ten (10) years of direct experience in land leasing/acquisition activities.
  • Past renewables experience preferred.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
  • Task and detail-oriented problem solver with exceptional organizational skills.
  • Patience and willingness to teach, mentor, and train others in the organization on real estate principles.
  • Requires knowledge of Microsoft Office, and CRM software.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and public speaking skills.
  • Expert contract drafter and negotiator
  • Expert-level knowledge of land, legal, and negotiation principles and an ability to deploy effectively
  • Self-starter, with the ability to work independently and as a team player, required
Preferred Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
  • Proven sales, account acquisition and account management experience

Physical Requirements: Ability to travel 50% or more of work time.
