Job summary

Granica Computing, Inc. seeks a Senior Software Engineer to build foundational lakehouse systems for AI.

You will own core systems affecting cost, query performance, and reliability across petabyte-scale environments, working with Iceberg, Delta Lake, Hudi, Parquet, ORC, and cloud storage. You will implement metadata and transaction layers, optimize layouts, and improve performance across Spark, Trino, Presto, Flink, Databricks, and Snowflake-adjacent environments.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering depth in distributed systems.
• Production experience with data lake or lakehouse technologies such as Iceberg, Delta Lake or Hudi.
• Hands‑on experience with columnar formats (Parquet, ORC).
• Understanding of metadata‑driven architectures, table formats and transaction semantics.

Responsibilities

• Build metadata and transaction systems for large-scale tabular datasets.
• Design systems with time travel, schema evolution, and snapshot isolation.
• Develop table-maintenance infrastructure for lakehouse formats.
• Build systems for manifests, transaction logs, and catalog consistency.
• Optimize file layout, clustering, compaction, and data skipping for performance.
• Improve cost efficiency across object-store environments (S3, GCS, ADLS).
• Work with Parquet/ORC encoding, compression, and read-path optimization.
• Create lakehouse systems across engines (Spark, Flink, Trino, Presto).
• Debug performance bottlenecks across storage, metadata, and compute layers.
• Develop workload-aware table optimization that learns from access patterns.
• Implement compression, representation, and data-efficiency techniques.
• Contribute to open-source or publish research when appropriate.
