Job summary

University of California, Irvine seeks a Workforce Relations Consultant to provide expert employee and labor relations support across HR functions. You will serve as the SME for staff collective bargaining agreements and represent UC Irvine in bargaining, grievances, and related proceedings.

In this role you will prepare analyses, facilitate settlements, and coordinate with counsel while supporting managers to minimize liability and achieve informal resolutions when possible.

Qualifications

• Expert knowledge of systemwide, campus and medical center HR policies and procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to bargain complex issues with significant costs to the university.
• Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills for diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert level employee and labor relations support to managers and HR teams.
• Serve as subject matter expert for staff collective bargaining agreements.
• Represent the University in bargaining, grievances, arbitrations and related proceedings.
• Prepare analyses, recommendations, and formal University responses for hearings.
• Facilitate settlements and coordinate strike contingency planning as needed.
• Lead meetings with union reps, employees, and management to resolve issues.
• Coordinate with Campus Counsel and outside counsel on pending litigation matters.
• Support HR partners to reduce employment liability and pursue informal resolutions.
