Job summary

UC Irvine is seeking a seasoned Academic Labor and Employee Relations Specialist (LER Specialist) for a two-year contract. The role provides expert guidance on unions, policies, and labor agreements, balancing management and employee rights while working with campus stakeholders.

The specialist leads labor relations projects, facilitates settlements, and may present at grievance hearings. A JD and senior experience in labor relations are preferred.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of labor/employment law and the principles and techniques of labor negotiations.
• Experience providing guidance to managers and employees on complex labor and employee relations issues.
• Ability to lead management in conflict and change management and to advise on performance management processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide consultation and recommendations to academic leadership on labor and employee relations matters.
• Lead employee and labor relations projects and systemwide initiatives.
• Facilitate settlement of disputes and negotiate/write settlement agreements.
• Present the University’s position at grievance/arbitration hearings; assist with responses and analyses.
