Job summary

Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) is seeking an experienced Labor & Employee Relations Manager to lead the labor and employee relations function within its Human Resources leadership team. You will guide contract administration, investigations, and union negotiations, reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer.

The ideal candidate has extensive union experience, strong CBA knowledge, and a proven ability to manage complex employee relations matters with credibility and professionalism

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field required.
• Seven (7) years of progressively responsible HR, employee relations, and/or labor relations experience.
• Significant unionized environment experience and collective bargaining administration required.
• Experience handling grievances, discipline, investigations, and complex employee-relations matters.
• Strong knowledge of labor laws and employment practices.
• Excellent investigative, analytical, written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Administer and interpret collective bargaining agreements and advise management on contract provisions and labor relations.
• Serve as HR liaison with union representatives to foster labor-management relationships.
• Manage the grievance process, investigations, and management responses with timelines.
• Participate in and support labor negotiations: research, data analysis, proposals, documentation.
• Coordinate labor-management meetings with preparation and follow-up.
• Lead workplace investigations involving bargaining-unit and non-bargaining-unit staff.
• Advise managers on employee relations, disciplinary actions, conduct, and policy interpretation.
• Review discipline for consistency with CBAs and policies; apply progressive discipline.
