Qualifications

Job description

The Senior Laboratory Technologist provides technical support for research, prototype fixture development, and testing activities within the Materials Science laboratories. This position requires extensive hands‑on experience in electromechanical systems, laboratory instrumentation, electronics, and machine shop equipment. The successful candidate will work closely with research scientists to build and maintain test setups, troubleshoot equipment, support testing activities, and ensure the safe and efficient operation of laboratory facilities.

Qualifications
  • Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent practical experience in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of hands‑on experience supporting laboratory, testing, manufacturing, or engineering environments.
  • Extensive hands‑on experience in the installation, fabrication, operation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of electromechanical systems, industrial piping systems, machine shop equipment, laboratory instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, assemble, modify, and repair laboratory equipment and experimental test apparatus.
  • Experience with, or the ability to learn materials characterization techniques, including scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), X‑ray fluorescence (XRF), optical microscopy, and related analytical methods.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and procedures.
  • Strong problem‑solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
