Job summary

Coherent Corp. in Sunnyvale, CA seeks a Lab Operations Supervisor to manage a customer-facing lab environment showcasing networking products and technologies, including servers, switches, monitoring tools, and supporting infrastructure.

You will lead shift personnel, coordinate equipment procurement, and collaborate with R&D, Process Engineering, QA, and Facilities to reach production targets while upholding Health & Safety and clean-room protocols.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Optics, Physics, Electronics or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 7+ years in communications and optical manufacturing roles.
• Strong problem-solving and technical troubleshooting in complex environments.
• Customer-facing experience is a plus with clear technical communication.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day lab environment personnel and operations.
• Design and manage a customer-facing lab showcasing networking products (servers, switches, monitoring tools).
• Define lab requirements, procure equipment, oversee installation and readiness.
• Collaborate with internal teams to develop interactive demonstrations of product capabilities.
• Maintain passive displays and signage within the lab.
• Recruit, train, retain, and discipline staff; manage timecards and PTO; schedule overtime.
• Coordinate materials, equipment, facilities, and labor to meet production targets.
• Report shift outputs and conduct daily/weekly shift briefings.
• Work with Process Eng, R&D, QA, Planning and Facilities for ongoing improvements.
• Plan shift schedules to meet targets and maximize resource use.
• Organize operator training and development; ensure safety standards and clean-room protocols.
• Provide accurate info on production issues to supervisors; analyze data to reach goals.
• Promote quality awareness and continuous improvement; maintain fair supervisory practices.
