Job summary

Affirm's Compute Platform team owns the EKS foundation that Affirm's products run on, handling cluster provisioning, safety standards, and scalable operations. You will help standardize, automate, observe, and self-heal the fleet, enforcing workload configuration standards across environments.

As a leader, you will architect and evolve the EKS platform, drive IaC and self-service workflows, and mentor engineers while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software or infrastructure engineering.
• 6+ years operating production Kubernetes at scale, ideally EKS on AWS.
• Strong cloud-native architecture experience on AWS (EC2, VPC, IAM, EKS).
• Experience with Terraform, Spacelift and GitOps-style deployment pipelines.
• Expert-level proficiency in Go or Python building production-grade Kubernetes tooling.
• Track record designing and enforcing standards across many teams.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Architect and evolve the EKS platform and cluster lifecycle.
• Lead cluster provisioning, upgrades, and teardown with IaC and self-service workflows.
• Own reliability of shared components (Karpenter, CoreDNS, VPC CNI, Kube Proxy) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Define and enforce workload safety standards covering resource configuration and blast radius.
• Build automation to move standards from research to policy-enforced defaults.
• Participate in on-call rotation and triage Kubernetes issues with SRE.
• Mentor engineers on Compute Platform teams.
