Job summary

affirm is seeking a Senior Engineer to define and drive workload safety standards for our EKS fleet. You will own end-to-end policy enforcement, lead cross-team rollouts, and mentor engineers to raise design and operational readiness.

You will tackle pod lifecycle, termination, and node lifecycle challenges, working with SRE, deployment, and capacity teams. Remote-first with US-wide scope.

Qualifications

• 5+ years running Kubernetes in production at scale, ideally Amazon EKS.
• Experience enforcing config standards via policy-as-code.
• Proficiency in Go or Python for infra software work.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve workload safety standards for the EKS fleet.
• Own standards end to end from research to enforcement.
• Lead cross-team initiatives and mentor engineers.
• Isolate workloads by criticality to protect checkout and other paths.
• Address pod termination and node lifecycle issues and timeouts.
• Analyze resource profiles to guide instance strategy.
• Measure impact on availability, latency, cost, and risk.
• Participate in on-call for Kubernetes runtime issues.
