Job summary

Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice seeks a Probation Parole Specialist III for Barrow CSO in Winder, GA. Under broad supervision, you will provide social services to rehabilitate offenders, develop rehabilitation plans, and supervise terms of probation or conditional release.

The role involves interviewing youth, administering tests, preparing case folders, and testifying in court. A strong background in social services with probation knowledge is required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of job-related experience in a social services delivery setting
• Or six (6) years of direct case management job -related experience working with offenders and their families in a social services delivery setting
• Or two (2) years’ experience at the lower-level Juv. Probation/Parole Spec 2 (SSP131) or position equivalent
• Or two (2) years of experience at the lower-level Juv. Probation/Parole Spec 2 (PSP241) or position equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field.

Responsibilities

• Interview youth regularly to evaluate progress in achieving probation/rehabilitation goals
• Recommend remedial action or initiate court action for non-compliance
• Administer drug and alcohol tests and screens to verify program compliance
• Prepare and maintain case folders for assigned youth offenders
• Discuss factors like substance abuse and anger management with offenders
• Conduct pre-hearing investigations and testify in court
• Inform offenders of conditional release requirements and related stipulations
• Write reports describing offenders’ progress
• Investigate legal issues affecting cases
• Write evaluations of offenders’ status
• Counsel clients on substance abuse issues and treatment options
• Arrange for medical, mental health, or substance abuse services as needed
• Supervise community-based sentences and conduct field checks or visits
