Job summary

Reindeer Tek seeks an experienced Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain mission software in a classified environment. The role focuses on Java-based backend development and secure wrappers around COTS product endpoints, with Python used for automation and data handling.

You will work directly with government stakeholders and engineering teams to deliver reliable, secure software that supports critical missions, requiring hands-on Java development and strong Python scripting skills.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on Java development experience (services/APIs/integration layers).
• Working proficiency in Python for scripting and tooling.
• Demonstrated experience integrating with COTS software endpoints.
• Onsite work in Chantilly, VA or McLean, VA, five days per week.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java-based services and APIs that wrap and integrate COTS product endpoints into government mission systems.
• Build Python-based tooling, automation, and data-handling scripts to support integration, testing, and operational workflows.
• Analyze COTS interfaces (APIs, SDKs, data formats, protocols) and design secure, maintainable wrapper/integration layers.
• Collaborate with government customers, systems engineers, and cross-functional teams to translate mission requirements into working software.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle in a classified environment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues between COTS products and custom mission applications.
• Contribute to code reviews, documentation, and secure coding/DevSecOps practices.
