Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience integrating with COTS software endpoints.
• Onsite work in Chantilly, VA or McLean, VA, five days per week.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reindeer Tek is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain mission software in a classified environment. This role centers on Java-based backend development and building secure wrappers and integration layers around commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software endpoints, with Python used for automation, tooling, and data-handling tasks. You will work directly with government stakeholders and engineering teams to deliver reliable, secure software that supports operational missions.

KEY SKILL FOCUS: JAVA & COTS ENDPOINT INTEGRATION

The core of this role is building and maintaining Java services that securely wrap, extend, and integrate commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) product endpoints into larger mission systems — translating COTS APIs, protocols, and data formats into consistent, secure interfaces that other systems can rely on. Strong, hands-on Java engineering experience combined with practical Python scripting ability is essential.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience developing in Java, including building services, APIs, or integration layers.
• Working proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, or tooling.
• Demonstrated experience integrating with or wrapping commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software endpoints.
• Ability to work onsite in Chantilly, VA or McLean, VA, five days per week.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work directly with government customers and technical teams.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or Oracle Cloud.
• Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipelines in a secure development environment.
• Experience with REST/SOAP APIs, message queues, or other system integration technologies.
• Prior experience supporting Intelligence Community or DoD programs.
