Job summary

UST is seeking a Senior Java Developer to build and maintain robust APIs and distributed systems for a global banking-related project. You will own design, development, and deployment responsibilities in a fast-moving environment, with a strong emphasis on testability, observability, and secure-by-default delivery.

The role emphasizes full lifecycle involvement, collaboration across teams, and adherence to DevOps practices, including CI/CD using Gradle/Maven and Jenkins.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Java with production-grade API design and distributed systems.
• Strong SDLC knowledge and ability to contribute across the lifecycle.
• Experience with testing: unit, API, acceptance, load testing.

We are seeking a Senior Java Developer with strong software engineering expertise and a DevOps mindset to build and maintain efficient, scalable, and reliable software solutions. The ideal candidate enjoys creating robust APIs, distributed systems, and best-practice frameworks that enable teams to deliver high-quality applications. You'll work on a global customer project in the financial services sector---a leading provider of credit cards, auto loans, banking, and savings accounts.

Position 100% remote for candidates based in Spain. On-call support: Paid 24/7 on-call rotation. One week on-call every 5-6 weeks with compensation for on-call hours.

What we're looking for

Essential

• Strong Java programming skills with deep knowledge of building production-grade APIs and distributed systems.
• Solid understanding of all stages in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and ability to contribute across the full lifecycle.
• Deep understanding of design patterns and principles (e.g., SOLID principles, microservices patterns).
• Experience with multiple testing types: Unit Testing, API Testing, Acceptance Testing, and Load Testing.
• Experience with distributed architectures such as SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture) or MSA (Microservices Architecture).
• Experience designing and implementing event-driven architectures and REST APIs.
• Strong grasp of the "build it, own it, run it" DevOps model---you take responsibility for design, deployment, and maintenance of your solutions.
• Experience with build tools like Gradle or Maven and Enterprise Jenkins for CI/CD.
• Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in an Agile environment (e.g., Scrum, SAFe).
• Comfortable operating independently in a fast-moving program and contributing from day one.
• Good engineering practices as second nature: API design, automated testing, observability, documentation, and secure-by-default delivery.

Nice to have

• Relevant experience with AWS services and AWS certifications.
• Experience working in highly regulated environments, particularly banking and financial services.
• Experience with Docker and containerization.
• Experience with serverless technologies (AWS Lambda, AWS Fargate).
• Familiarity with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) practices.
• Experience building and maintaining internal developer platforms or tools.
