Job summary

Kunai is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a high-impact digital payments modernization program supporting the integration of a major card network into a leading US financial institution. You will work across domain-driven design, microservice architecture, and cloud-native platforms to build scalable payment solutions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering, with Java focus.
• Strong knowledge of Oracle/PostgreSQL; PostgreSQL Aurora a plus.
• Experience in containerized environments (OpenShift, Kubernetes).
• Spring Boot/JPA, Drools, and integration/orchestration (Camel).
• Kafka or similar event streaming experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and harden a Java-based service with a relational database backend.
• Design integration workflows using Apache Camel and orchestrate multi-step pipelines.
• Build an event-driven backbone using Kafka and ensure reliability.
• Create a micro-frontend path and own identity architecture (OAuth2/OIDC).
• Lead CI/CD, tests, and performance validation across environments.
