Job summary

Kunai Co. seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join a high-impact digital payments modernization program supporting card-network integration for a major US financial institution. This hands-on role blends legacy and modern infrastructure across backend and frontend domains.

You will develop Java services, design identity/auth architectures, and drive reliability, performance, and security in a regulated fintech environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, primarily in Java.
• Strong working knowledge of relational databases (Oracle/PostgreSQL) and migrations.
• Experience deploying services in containerized environments (OpenShift/Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with Tomcat/WebSphere and Spring Boot/JPA.
• Experience with Apache Camel and Drools or similar rules engines.
• Hands-on design of authorization/data-access controls in production systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services in Java with PostgreSQL and OpenShift.
• Design and implement micro-frontend architectures (Next.js/React/TypeScript).
• Own OAuth2/OIDC identity flows end-to-end (Okta integration).
• Lead CI/CD with automated tests (unit, contract, integration, e2e).
• Contribute to performance testing and optimization of high-throughput payments systems.
• Collaborate across teams in a large, matrixed fintech program.
