Job summary

Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) is hiring a Software Engineer III to design, build, and modernize critical Java/Spring Boot applications across on-prem and cloud environments. You will lead feature refinement, coordinate with product and architecture teams, and apply AI-assisted development practices to accelerate delivery while ensuring compliance and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/EE or equivalent with 5+ years of experience.
• Proven ability to design, develop, debug, test, deploy, and support production applications with Java/Spring Boot.
• Experience applying AI-native engineering tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) across implementation and testing workflows.
• Demonstrated judgment for secure, compliant software practices (NERC CIP/SOC 1 beneficial).
• Proficiency with Git, CI/CD, pull requests, code reviews, and automated builds/tests.
• Experience designing and integrating APIs and service contracts.
• Strong SQL and data quality concepts across schemas and transactions.
• Ability to reason about non‑functional requirements and make technical tradeoffs.
• Delivery-focused with ability to estimate complex work and plan deployments.
• Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and platforms (Azure, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy, operate, and modernize Java/Spring Boot applications in data-intensive, mission‑critical environments including legacy systems and cloud platforms.
• Define technical approach for complex features considering security, reliability, and performance.
• Lead technical refinement, estimates, and coordination for feature delivery and releases.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to clarify requirements and tradeoffs.
• Apply AI throughout the SDLC to accelerate delivery and improve quality.
