Job summary

Ally Financial is seeking a backend Java engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices and APIs in a cloud-native environment. You will work across backend and, when needed, front-end areas, translating requirements into robust solutions and delivering with high quality.

The role emphasizes strong Java/JEE/Spring Boot skills, experience with AWS services, CI/CD practices, and Agile SCRUM. Hybrid work, on-site presence three days a week, and competitive compensation are typical.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software engineering experience with strong proficiency in Java, Java EE, Spring Boot, REST Web Services, Hibernate, MySQL, and JUnit.
• Experience building backend systems, APIs, and microservices in large enterprises or SaaS environments.
• Experience with cloud-based environments such as AWS EC2, ECS, API Gateway, Lambda, S3, and SQS.
• Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or JavaScript.
• Strong experience in Agile Scrum environments. GitLab CI/CD and automated testing experience a plus.
• Proficient in JSON, XML, XSLT, and relational databases.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Reports to the office 3 times a week.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services, APIs, and enterprise applications using Java and cloud-native architecture.
• Contribute to frontend development including support for user-facing features and full-stack solutions when needed.
• Translate business and technical requirements into scalable designs and plans; provide estimates and communicate risks.
• Write clean, secure, and high-quality code; address vulnerabilities and adhere to standards.
• Lead design discussions, perform code reviews, and mentor teammates.
• Support CI/CD, automated testing, and agile ceremonies; participate in retrospectives.
