Job summary

JPMorgan Chase is seeking a Backend Lead Software Engineer for Kafka and AWS to join a fast-moving Consumer and Community Banking agile team. You will drive secure, scalable backend microservices, and champion AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality and delivery speed.

The role emphasizes designing, building, and operating high-volume data systems using SQL/NoSQL, RESTful APIs, and distributed platforms in a cloud environment.

Qualifications

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience.
• Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• Proficiency in back-end technologies with experience building microservices-based applications; for full-stack roles, proficiency also includes front-end technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to independently solve design and functionality challenges with minimal supervision.
• Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS) and distributed systems, RESTful APIs, WebSockets, and JSON.
• Hands-on experience designing and building scalable applications using SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience leading AI-assisted software development tools and setting team expectations for validating AI outputs.

Responsibilities

• Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and troubleshooting across complex problems.
• Develops secure high-quality production code and reviews code.
• Leads adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices to improve quality, speed, and stability.
• Applies SDLC tools to improve automation and value creation.
• Identifies opportunities to automate remediation to improve operational stability.
• Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors and internal teams on architectural designs.
• Leads communities of practice to promote new technologies.
