Job summary

The Citi team in New York seeks a highly experienced Team Lead- Java Back-End Developer to drive day-to-day engineering execution on the Digital Assets Platform. You will write production code, mentor engineers, and own complex technical problems with a focus on backend/platform excellence.

Responsibilities include hands-on leadership, rigorous code reviews, low-level design, and driving delivery with strong engineering discipline.

Qualifications

• 6-10 years of hands-on software development, backend focus (Java, Spring Boot).
• Proven track record leading by doing with coding alongside the team.
• Strong experience in thorough code reviews addressing correctness, security, performance.
• Ability to drive low-level design and critique detailed technical designs.
• Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to hiring/technical interviewing.
• Solid fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, concurrency, DB design, API design.
• Experience in large-scale, regulated environments (financial services preferred).
• Excellent communication to explain trade-offs to engineers and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Write, review, and ship production-quality code with the team.
• Set technical direction for day-to-day implementation, ensure architecture alignment.
• Lead low-level design discussions and critique designs for scalability and resilience.
• Mentor junior/mid-level engineers and support hiring/tech interviews.
• Drive sprint execution, decompose epics into technical tasks and estimate effort.
• Promote automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and operational readiness.
