Job summary

The Utah Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Population Health Informatics Program is seeking a full-time Senior Java Application Developer to design, develop, and maintain Java applications and web services, replacing legacy systems and delivering scalable solutions for both public users and internal staff.

The ideal candidate has deep Java expertise (Core, EE/JEE, JPA, JPQL), JSF/PrimeFaces, PostgreSQL, AWS, and RESTful services, plus strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience with Java Core / JEE / JPA / JPQL.
• 5+ years with JSF / PrimeFaces.
• 10+ years with PostgreSQL (SQL/PLpgSQL).
• 5+ years AWS exposure and cloud services.
• 5+ years implementing RESTful Web Services.
• Knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java applications and web services for DHHS.
• Replace legacy applications and create new systems using Java web frameworks (EJB/JSF).
• Update apps to meet user requirements and add enhancements.
• Build web APIs that interact with PostgreSQL.
• Implement authentication for external users and systems (OAuth2/OpenAM).
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines in AWS environments.
• Ensure data security standards and encryption practices.
• Collaborate with developers, engineers, and SMEs; work remotely when needed.
