Job summary

Northwestern University in Evanston seeks a Research Facility IT Services Manager to lead a coordinated IT support model across core facilities and laboratories. You will supervise staff who design, configure, and operate technology enabling compliant research workflows and data management.

The role coordinates with researchers, vendors, and security teams to deliver reliable, scalable services in complex environments while aligning with institutional standards and priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Five or more years of experience in research computing, academic research, core facilities, or data-intensive environments.
• Three or more years supervising technical staff across multiple projects or services.
• Working knowledge of research data workflows and endpoint environments.
• Experience with data transfer tools and cloud/enterprise platforms; knowledge of information security practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead senior research facility support specialists and endpoint technicians across core facilities and labs.
• Set team priorities, allocate resources, monitor service delivery, and manage risks.
• Provide staff supervision, coaching, performance management, and professional development.
• Develop and maintain service models, SOPs, documentation, intake processes, and escalation pathways.
• Drive continuous improvement of service standards and implementation practices.
• Coordinate delivery with researchers, vendors, cybersecurity, storage, networking, and other IT teams.
• Translate requirements into service plans and measurable outcomes.
• Oversee secure data/workflow delivery and inventory management across environments.
• Ensure alignment with security, regulated-data, and institutional standards.
