Job summary

University of Maryland, College Park is seeking a Senior IT Network Engineer to lead the planning, design, and implementation of campus wired and wireless network infrastructure. The role involves collaboration with stakeholders, life-cycle management of network devices, and ensuring up-to-date documentation.

You will present technical designs, train staff, and mentor colleagues while participating in on-call rotations and after-hours support as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Four (4) years of professional experience supporting the operations, maintenance, and administration of information technology infrastructure.
• Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to lead presentations with small to medium sized groups.
• Able to organize and provide direction to junior staff members.
• A demonstrated commitment to customer service.
• Provides leadership and helps bridge the gap between team manager and team members on technical topics.
• Ability to effectively manage workload and delivery assignments on time.
• Skilled in the use of office productivity software such as Office 365 or Google Workspaces.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and implement wired and wireless network infrastructure improvements and new capabilities.
• Design, develop, and support the wired and wireless network infrastructure including life cycle management of routers, switches, VPN systems, firewalls, load balancers, VoIP, wireless and monitoring infrastructure.
• Ensure network documentation is up-to-date including design documents, requirements, runbooks, and diagrams.
• Present and communicate technical design and training topics to audiences and mentor colleagues as needed.
• Participate in the on-call rotation and provide some support outside of business hours.

Education

Bachelor’s degree

Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline (highly desired)
