Job summary

Bowhead is seeking an ISSE / Systems Security Engineer to support a government RDTE program in Dahlgren, VA. The role focuses on cybersecurity policy development, RMF documentation, vulnerability management, and secure system design while coordinating with ISSMs and engineers.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in security engineering, DoD/IA knowledge, UNIX/Windows administration, and a Top Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant security engineering experience.
• Knowledge of DoD security and IA requirements per DoDI 8500.2 and DISA STIG.
• UNIX and Windows system administration knowledge.
• DoD 8570 Information Assurance Management Level II certification.
• Ability to communicate with all levels and stakeholders.
• Top Secret clearance required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with development and maintenance of cybersecurity policies and IA guidance to meet DoD/Navy program requirements.
• Support continuous monitoring activities including log analysis, vulnerability tracking, and RMF artifacts.
• Help design repeatable cybersecurity processes to improve efficiency and compliance.
• Identify automation opportunities for configuration validation and vulnerability testing.
• Produce clear documentation, risk analyses, and briefings for engineers and leadership.
• Serve as liaison between Code 104 and 1043 ISSMs to align security requirements.
• Build relationships with system owners, admins, and external partners to resolve security concerns.
• Support system authorization and remediation planning across life cycle.
