Job summary

Bowhead seeks a Systems Administrator with Red Hat Enterprise Linux experience to provide IT support for developers and users on tactical systems. The role includes installation, configuration, and cybersecurity hardening in DoD-aligned environments, with responsibility for automation, documentation, and cross-team collaboration.

The position requires a Secret-level clearance, network expertise, and the ability to work in a demanding, mission-focused setting in the Dahlgren, VA area.

Qualifications

• Three years of professional experience provisioning, installation / configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software in a Linux environment.
• High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Experience installing, supporting, and maintaining servers or other computer systems, and responding to outages.
• In-depth understanding of networking concepts, hardware, and software (TCP/IP, routing, firewall configurations, Cisco switches).
• Knowledge of enterprise environments with admin tools (Red Hat Satellite, Active Directory, PDQ).
• Advanced knowledge of DoD, DoN, NAVSEA IT compliance requirements.
• Strong communication across levels and good teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Manage a wide range of Linux-based applications for engineering and scientific tasks.
• Diagnose and resolve advanced system and networking issues.
• Write and maintain complex automation scripts.
• Provide support to weapon systems on standalone networks with individual configurations.
• Assess, harden, and mitigate cyber vulnerabilities using ACAS/Nessus, STIGs, and SRGs.
• Lead cybersecurity compliance initiatives and document systems and processes.
• Assist ISSO and contribute to enterprise environments meeting network compliance.
