Job summary

Hatch Ltd. in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking an Iron & Steel Specialist to lead and support projects across the ironmaking and steelmaking value chain.

You will provide process expertise on blast furnaces, DRI, EAF, BOF, secondary metallurgy, casting, and material handling, while guiding design criteria and project execution. The role emphasizes collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, client engagement, and hands-on involvement in commissioning and operational improvements to deliver

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering or related field required
• 10+ years in ironmaking/steelmaking, process engineering, or consulting
• Strong knowledge of integrated steel production routes and equipment

Responsibilities

• Lead and support iron and steelmaking projects from concept to detailed engineering
• Develop and review process design criteria, mass/energy balances, and equipment specs
• Support decarbonization, energy efficiency, and modernization studies including alternative fuels
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, cost-effective plant designs
• Engage with clients, conduct workshops, sites assessments, and value improvement reviews
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to project ramp-up and optimization
