Job summary

K&L Gates in the United States is seeking a Senior Research Analyst with Intellectual Property research expertise to support lawyers and allied professionals with high-quality research and training.

This role can be fully remote and requires at least 5 years of specialized research experience, a master’s in library/information science (JD preferred), and strong communication and project management skills.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in research in a legal/government/corporate setting with tight deadlines.
• IP research experience preferred.
• Master’s in Library or Information Science; JD considered for compatibility.
• Strong understanding of legal systems, research methods and information sources.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert-level research and consultative services to lawyers and allied professionals across time zones.
• Conduct legal, business, and public records research using government and subscription resources.
• Evaluate sources for currency, reliability and cost-effectiveness.
• Present clear, organized results and integrate findings into work products.
• Prioritize billable workflow and meet deadlines, communicating proactively.
• Engage with Generative AI tools where appropriate to enhance efficiency.
• Scope and respond to complex legal, corporate, and client-related research requests.
• Lead research strategy for queries requiring expert analysis or project management.
• Provide current awareness and litigation alerts aligned with industry sectors.
• Develop understanding of information needs to improve access and usability.
• Collaborate with practice groups to improve service delivery and tool offerings.
• Deliver training sessions and materials on research methods and tools.
• Mentor junior team members and support knowledge sharing.
• Complete knowledge management and time-entry for billable work.
• Participate in trials, demos, and evaluations of new tools and upgrades.
• Advise on purchases/renewals of research resources; present recommendations.
• Ensure compliance with information security, privacy, confidentiality and licensing.
• Meet with leadership to review resources and usage.
• Contribute to RFPs requiring practice-area research expertise.
• Pursue professional development and share insights with the team.
