Job summary

Roche Diagnostics seeks a patent professional to lead intellectual property efforts for diagnostic assays and sequencing technologies. The role focuses on managing a broad patent portfolio, guiding freedom-to-operate analyses, and providing strategic counsel to R&D and manufacturing teams.

You will render opinions, supervise prosecutions, and align IP priorities with business goals while contributing to global patent strategy from offices in California.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in patent prosecution and counseling in a corporate setting or law firm
• Registered US patent agent or attorney qualification; member in good standing of a state bar
• Advanced degree in Molecular Biology, Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry

Responsibilities

• Provide counseling to researchers, manufacturing, business development and commercialization teams on IP matters
• Render patentability, validity, and freedom-to-operate opinions for product development
• Manage a substantial worldwide patent portfolio and oversee prosecutions
• Identify patenting opportunities aligned with R&D and business priorities
• Assist with due diligence and risk analyses (FTO, infringement, validity) and support related contracts with outside counsel
