Job summary

The New York Times in New York City is seeking a Senior iOS Engineer to lead the evolution of behavioral data tools and mobile data infrastructure for our iOS apps such as News, Games, Cooking, and The Athletic.

You will design and maintain event collection, analytics instrumentation, and mobile data contracts at scale, partnering with product, analytics, and mobile platform teams to ensure reliable, private, and extensible data systems.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience building native iOS applications in Swift.
• Expertise in Swift, Swift Concurrency, and modern iOS architectural patterns (e.g., MVVM, unidirectional data flow).
• Demonstrated experience designing and maintaining shared libraries or SDK-style code consumed by multiple teams or applications.
• Experience working with analytics systems, event-driven architectures, or experimentation frameworks.
• Experience independently owning large technical initiatives from design through rollout.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship iOS features by enhancing existing code and creating new functionality from scratch.
• Write clean, maintainable code using Swift and SwiftUI.
• Participate in code reviews and write unit tests; collaborate with QA to enable robust automated functional tests.
• Contribute to app architectural decisions, documentation, technical roadmap and timeline estimations.
• Integrate with internal NY Times services and external third-party APIs.
• Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
