Job summary

Manulife in Boston is seeking an experienced IRCS analyst to serve as the primary risk and portfolio construction analyst for an assigned group of portfolios. You will develop a deep understanding of each team's investment philosophy, independently assess portfolio risks, and provide actionable quantitative insights to portfolio managers and senior investment stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in quantitative/investment risk, portfolio construction, or related field.
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills to translate complex analyses into clear insights.
• Strong programming skills in R and/or Python with experience in financial/portfolio data.
• Bachelor's or master's in finance, mathematics, statistics, financial engineering, economics, CS, or related field.
• Solid understanding of financial markets, investment instruments, and portfolio risk.
• Excellent communication with portfolio managers, senior investment professionals, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary risk and portfolio construction analyst for an assigned group of portfolios, understanding their investment philosophy, process, positioning, and key sources of risk.
• Partner with portfolio managers and investment teams to evaluate risks, positioning, and construction decisions.
• Independently monitor portfolios to ensure alignment with stated process, objectives, and risk parameters.
• Conduct quantitative portfolio analysis: factor exposures, concentration, liquidity, stress testing, scenario analysis, and risk measures.
• Identify emerging or unintended risks and determine follow-up actions with PMs or escalation as needed.
• Present portfolio analysis and risk insights clearly to PMs and investment leadership.
• Contribute to development of risk management frameworks and analytics processes.
• Support regular risk monitoring and reporting, improving efficiency and scalability.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance analytical tools and workflows using R and Python.
• Work with risk, market, and portfolio data across platforms to improve data quality and usability.
• Collaborate with global colleagues on cross-asset risk issues and analytics initiatives.
