Job summary

OPERS, the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System, is seeking a Senior Investment Analyst for its Internal Fixed Income team to strengthen credit research and security selection within the US High Yield strategy.

You will develop independent, differentiated credit views through rigorous fundamental analysis, build financial models, and contribute to investment decisions across the portfolio in collaboration with the High Yield Portfolio Manager and the broader investment team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and CFA Charterholder required.
  • MBA or master's in finance or related field preferred.
  • At least five years of experience in fundamental credit analysis.
  • Bloomberg experience.
  • License as State Retirement System Investment Officer (SRSIO) within six months of hire.

Job description

At the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS), a 60-person investment staff managesa$129billion portfolio of diversified assets across public and private markets. Our Internal Fixed Income team is seeking a Senior Investment Analyst to play a key role in supporting all aspects of security selection, credit research, and portfolio management within our US High Yield strategy. This individual will be responsible for developing independent, differentiated credit views through rigorous fundamental analysis and will contribute directly to investment decision-making across the portfolio. The analyst will leverage strong critical thinking, financial modeling, and analytical skills to assess relative value opportunities, identify key risks and catalysts, and formulate actionable investment recommendations within assigned sector coverage.

What You’ll Do

Conduct issuer and industry research across high yield sectors, including financial analysis, capital structure review, competitive assessment, market monitoring, and key credit-driver identification. Develop investment theses and share insights with the investment team.

Partner with the High Yield Portfolio Manager to identify opportunities, support portfolio construction, and manage risk to improve risk-adjusted returns versus the benchmark.

Participate in investment discussions, portfolio reviews, and meetings with management teams and market participants. The ideal candidate brings curiosity, judgment, communication skills, and passion for below-investment-grade credit with primary coverage focused on US issuers.
