Job summary

Sappi is seeking an experienced Instrument Mechanician to install, maintain and repair instrumentation, ensuring maximum plant availability. You will identify repair and replacement needs in line with engineering specs and safety standards, and assist in project installation from field to DCS.

Key duties include preventative maintenance, fault finding, calibration to ISO standards, planning and completing work orders, and contributing to root-cause analyses while maintaining high housekeeping

Qualifications

• Matric plus Full Engineering N2 Certificate with all four subjects completed.
• N3 Engineering Certificate is advantageous.
• Instrument Mechanician Trade Test Certificate with 3 years post-trade-test experience in heavy industry.
• Excellent fault-finding and troubleshooting abilities.
• Experience in the Pulp & Paper industry is advantageous.
• SAP experience is advantageous.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Ability to work under pressure while following procedures and standards.
• Must be able to perform standby duties.

Responsibilities

• Preventative maintenance as per maintenance schedules
• Fault finding, repairs and maintenance on Instrumentation / Control Systems
• Calibration of all field instrumentation to ISO standards
• Ensure damaged, ageing, and redundant equipment is replaced / removed timeously
• Assist in installation and commissioning of all new projects from field to DCS
• Scope and plan work orders as required
• Complete works orders
• Adhere to all Engineering and Safety standards
• Participate in root-cause failure analysis
• Perform daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual plant inspections and report all defects
• Maintain a high level of housekeeping
