Job summary

Fervo Energy is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to design and optimize I&C systems for 50 MW geothermal blocks. You will develop control philosophies, SCADA applications, and PLC code, while mentoring junior engineers and standardizing across projects.

You will work across disciplines to ensure integrated designs, support field evaluations, and coordinate cybersecurity considerations. Hybrid work with regular in-office collaboration is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related ABET program.
• 7+ years of Instrumentation & Control Engineering experience or related role.
• Knowledge of NEC, ISA and applicable industry codes and standards.
• Ability to lead and mentor junior staff.
• Strong written and verbal communication; capable of technical reports.
• Experience with P&ID development, control narratives, SIS design, valve sizing, automation.
• Field experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design control system architectures for standardized 50 MW geothermal blocks.
• Develop Ignition SCADA apps using Perspective and related server/HMI components.
• Program Rockwell PLCs (ControlLogix/CompactLogix) in Studio 5000 and maintain libraries.
• Produce complete I&C drawing packages including diagrams and wiring schematics.
• Review P&IDs and instrument datasheets; size instrumentation and valves.
• Design control panels and coordinate with panel fabricators.
• Configure and troubleshoot networks (Modbus, EtherNet/IP, Profinet, OPC-UA).
• Support greenfield construction, SAT, loop checks, and field coordination.
• Collaborate with process/mechanical/electrical engineers for integrated I&C design.
• Coordinate with IT/OT and cybersecurity teams for secure remote access.
• Troubleshoot control systems in field operations and startup.
