Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer for a hybrid role that requires in-office work 3 days per week. You will contribute to design and upgrade of process control systems for power plants and oil & gas facilities, and support equipment procurement and installation services.

Collaboration and mentoring of junior engineers are key parts of the role. You will develop P&IDs, I/O lists, control narratives, and network architectures while ensuring compliance with standards.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering required.
• Emphasis on control systems preferred; PE license is preferred; ability to obtain PE license.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in power generation, oil and gas, or heavy industrial control systems.
• Understanding of instrumentation and control system design practices, standards, and project execution.
• Experience supporting development of I&C design deliverables: logic diagrams, control narratives, P&IDs, I/O lists, control panel designs, etc.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for technical plans and drawings.
• Experience mentoring less experienced I&C engineers.
• Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel and Access.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; collaborative team player.
• Strong work ethic and enthusiastic attitude.

Responsibilities

• Design process control systems and prepare specs for I&C equipment and related installation services.
• Develop P&IDs, I/O lists, control panel designs, and network architecture; create cable schedules and location plans.
• Prepare control narratives and specifications for instrumentation and controls equipment.
• Participate in Process Hazard Analysis and Design Reviews.
• Travel to client/vendor offices for design reviews and to plant sites for construction coordination and field verification of designs.
• Mentor junior engineers and engage in Communities of Practice.
